Written by a person with gout

GoutPlate is run by someone who lives with gout. That is the whole qualification — and the point. The questions this site answers come from my own search history: what is actually in the food, where did the number come from, and can I see it without a wall of health advice.

I am not a medical professional. Nothing here is medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. For decisions about your diet, medication, or treatment, talk to your own doctor or dietitian. See the full disclaimer.

Where the data comes from

  • Purine values — USDA/ODS-NIH Database for the Purine Content of Foods, Release 2.0 (March 2025). One row per food, with the original citation kept in the database.
  • Fructose, alcohol, calories — USDA FoodData Central (Foundation Foods and SR Legacy datasets).
  • Every row links to its source. If a value was not in the source data, it is shown as “No data available” — nothing is estimated or filled in by AI.

How this site stays honest

  • Food pages are only created for foods with real source data and something useful to say about them — never generated just to have more pages.
  • Missing numbers stay visibly missing. “0” is only ever shown for values below the laboratory’s detection limit, and labeled as such.
  • No medical claims. No “eat this / avoid that” verdicts. The data is presented, the source is linked, and the judgment stays with you and your doctor.
